In attempting to improve sales of hotel rooms online we are often inundated with requests from the hotel to change the website look and feel ie, 'deepen that shade of blue' 'make that image flash etc' 

In discussions we have often said that website 'look and feel' is NOT in our top 20 suggestions for improving room sales online. Recently we were taken at our word and asked to produce this 'magic list' of 20 items. Below is the result (yes 21 items!) along with a weighting or importance.

We were sure this would create some debate, and you can follow the discussions HERE Alternatively use this as a Checklist, print out this list, tick the items you believe you have covered and give yourself a score. 
 
Start Practising Demand Management 11
Sign uo to at least 10 Booking Engines 11
Use Channel Management Software 9
Appoint a Revenue Manager 9
Set up all Rooms Types on all Booking Engines 7
Have regularly updated content on the website 7
Set up a Google Adwords Campaign 7
Add TripAdvisor Comments to your website 6
Develop a clear SMS/Text 'Frequent Customer Scheme' 5
Invest in good quality photography 5
Optimise Metatags on the website 4
Create and display video of hotel on the website 4
Develop a clear e mail led 'Frequent Customer Scheme' 4
Develop a clear method for customers to sign-up. 2
Have a Staff Bonus Scheme for Customer sign-ups 2
Be listed in Google Business Centre 2
Use Google Maps to display Local Attractions etc 1
Have the Google GeoLocation correctly set. 1
Have a Skype Account built into the website 1
