AccuBook Bulletin No 9 - Gulliver Presentation

Wednesday, May 14, 2008 12:00 AM

Gulliver are our special guests for the last hour of Module 6 and they will be offering some hints and tips for Search Engine Optimisation and how to get more traffic onto your website. They will also be presenting the new look Goireland.com website and explaining the work that has been done particularly for the Donegal Region where apparently there are a large amount of visitors searching for accommodation.

THE LAST HOUR OF THE MODULE WE ARE OPENING UP TO OTHER MAJOR HOTELS IN COUNTY DONEGAL, EVEN IF THEY ARE NOT PARTICIPATING IN THE ONLINE MARKETING AWARD, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO COME ALONG. Just let Andy Bassett info@accubook.net or shona.mehan@failteireland.ie know if you wish to attend so we can make sure we have enough seats.

To attend JUST the Gulliver Ireland Presentation;
Adult Eduction Centre (above Doms) Domegal Town May 27th 12.00
North West Training Centre Ballyraine Letterkenny May 28th 12.30

Here are a few hints and tips that might help improve your E Mail Marketing Campaigns;
  • Do ensure that the e mail is personally addressed ie to 'John Smith'.
  • Ensure that your recipients have said they WANT to receive your E mails (ie its not just a 'cobbled together' database)
  • Ensure your subject line contains something appealling and interesting (this is the first thing recipients see when they open up their e mail, remember that 83% of E Mails are treated as junk and never opened).
  • Ensure that the offer/bait is 'compelling' and attractive.
    Summarise the offer/bait at the top of the e mail, dont make guests read through a lot of copy to find it.
  • Do add genuinely useful soundbites of information relating to the hotel, dont simply list your special offers.
  • Do attempt to make the content look like it has had some personal thought attached to it, not just a list of Special Offers thrown in. Talk for example of events that are upcoming OR have already taken place in your hotel.
  • Address your E Mail personally ie If your hotel is family run then say from the xxxxxx Family. Failing that put in your own name and details.

Your Questions
'We had a supplier ring and ask if we can link from our website to theirs. Will this help us with our Google Search Engine Ranking'?

Well, yes but, links from other websites onto YOUR website would be more useful for your own business. A quick reminder of Link Building Issues;

1. If you have a lot of links from other websites onto your own, Google thinks you are a popular website and gives you a higher Search Engine Ranking.
2. Links from websites with similar content (ie tourism) is the best type of links to have.
3. Links from popular (ie high traffic) website count more.
4. Links with keywords in are the best ie instead of 'click here', 'Donegal Hotel Accommodation' would be better.
5. Avoid simple Link Exchanges ie creating webpages called simply 'links'.

Did you know?

  • If you are not sure if you have received all the bookings via e mail you can go to the reports section of the AccuBook Booking Engine and call up the booking details.
  • To identify which newspapers advertisments are delivering you results, you could create 2 different Promotion Codes for 2 different newspapers and see which one is used to book.
  • If you wnat to sell a package online that needs time to organise ie a weeks horse riding, you can use the 'switch off days before' feature to build a gap between booking and arriving ie 7 days.
