Adding categories to your website

Your website has a number of Categories ( pages ) and Articles ( pages associated with a category). Categories appear on your website menu, Articles do not. The ‘Web Site Text’ menu item allows you to edit content of your website. Under the ‘Sections’ menu item you can access all the categories in your site. Hovering over items with a black arrow will show the subcategories under that category.

1. Hover over Sections (1) under the Web Site Text menu item

2. Click on the parent category name that you will be adding the new category under. The edit form for the parent category will be displayed.

3. Click Add Sub Category (3). The category details page will be displayed. Information about the fields is provided in the table below.

4. Enter the content for the new category. See “WYSIWYG Editor” for information on formatting the content.

5. Click save (4). The new category will now appear in the CMS sections menu under the category you added it to, as well as on your website.

Tip: The “Home” category is the root category, and cannot be deleted. You cannot create additional root categories. Instead, add new categories either directly under “Home”, or one of the subcategories.

Tip: Although you can nest categories as deeply as you wish, site visitors can get frustrated if they have to click too many times to get information they want. Three levels is a reasonable limit. (Example: Home > News and Events > Activities)
